"Always endeavour to fight the enemy on your terms. If you are powerful at close quarters then engage in dense terrain where your advantage will prove greatest. If you are superior at long range then fight the battle at a distance. If you have great numbers then attack along an extended front. Use reserves to break through when the enemy´s overstretched lines collapse.
If outmumbered then concentrate your forces so that the enemy can fight only your best troops. No-one ever won a battle who failed to take advantage of his enemy´s weakness."

Work-place

Here you see a pic of my old working-place. I like the picture in the way that it shows off all important thins you need for the hobby.
The needed things are (in no peculiar order):
brushes & glue
You wouldn´t want to paint unassembled miniatures and this without any brush, did you? I prefer using two types of glue. One the standard cyano-acrylic glue which dries in seconds, the second a plastic glue which is used for these plastic airplane kits. For brushes I opt for one detail brush which should have a crisp point and be small. I also like to have one brush with short bristles for dry-brushing and one big brush for undercoating and large areas. Here are also found the cutting knife (sharp!) and a file.
water
Well you might want to clean your brushes after painting. I would advise starting every "paint-day" with a fresh pot of water and cleaning the brush after each color (not less, preferably more often).
light
Well, I like to see what I am painting. Best are halogen lamps as they give a natural color of light. Therefor you´ll get a result which looks good not only under your light source but also somewhere else on the battlefield.
colors
You´ll only need this if you want to paint your mini´s (or you´re a tinboy, he he). Although they are not really cheap, I really like the Citadel paints (although the new pots suck). The colors I think every Blood Angels player needs are: red (I don´t like the ´Angels red), snot green, black, white, bone, flesh, flesh wash (for flesh and bone, also good for shading light red), silver, yellow, gold, grey. Everything else may come in handy at some point, but I wound´t call it a must.
bits
Over the time you´ll aquire all kind of bits. Arms, weapons etc. Keep everything, as one of the keys to an interesting looking army is the conversion of your mini´s.
working pieces
Well I hate to work on just one mini at a time, so I always have a row of them all half-painted. When I want to paint something I always have the right miniature handy. One for undercoating, one for finishing touches, one for base colors and so on.
That´s it.

The first two pics are of a small diorama I made. It depicts a sorceress setting some poor guy on fire. In fact the whole thing is one conversion. She was a Bretonian Sorceress before. But with both weapons cut off, one of which took the hand with it, she now doesn´t look so much Warhammer like. More like the evil witch out of a dark tower. The poor guy is just plastic skeleton painted grey/ black with some cotton wool painted red/ orange. For the floor tiling I simply cut out some parts of the bases and painted the sections in different colours.

How to get such an idea one might ask. Well I walked down the road one day and thought to myself: hey, I´ve got to do a sorceress burning some poor guy. Then I went to my GW store and looked for the appropriate miniatures and bought them. Then I set myself to prepare what was needed. Sharp cutting knife, miniatures, colour, putty, cotton wool, glue and patience (I wouldn´t advise trying to paint undryed putty, it may mess up the brush).

The third shows the vicious attack of a Hormagaunt on a wounded Guardsman. It shall represent the relentless onslaught of the Tyranid horde. One can clearly see how the Ripper Swarms eat up the grass leaving behind the bare soil. Only the Guardsman is converted. I modelled him some bandages on and cut some more wounds in. The red cross box and scissors on the ground are modelled by me also. As you can see on the base I never really finished it, but I just can´t get me to do it.
